Mount Pilatus
A mountain of contrasts

Welcome to Mount Pilatus

Chris Zimmermann

Standing 2,119m high, Pilatus is the city of Lucerne's home mountain.

What will I see?

Float through the air in the cable car that feels like a helicopter cockpit - or ride along vertical rockfaces with a 48% gradient in the historic cog railway, the steepest in the world... Pilatus is a mountain of contrasts.
Once a legendary mountain associated with dragons, today the Pilatus is a popular excursion point, viewing platform and place of adventure at the door to Lucerne. And here the world’s steepest cog wheel railway runs from Alpnachstad through the woods, fields and walls of rock on a maximum 48 percent climb. Gondola rail and a cableway on the north side unite Kriens with Pilatus Kulm.

  • General Lenses: 24-70, 24-105 for a wide range of photo types and panoramas
  • Wide angle Lenses: 11-24, 16-35 for great wide angle shots
  • Telephoto Lenses: 28-300, 100-400 for details in subjects
  • Special Lenses: If you own a Macro lense or a Tilt-Shift lens - there will be plenty of opportunities to use them
  • Tripod: For morning, evening and long exposure shots during daylight. A tripod will greatly enhance your photographic experience

Other Essentials
